Retractable Wall Drying Rack | Space-Saving Fold-Away Balcony Airer

An aluminium drying arm that mounts on a wall and folds away to almost nothing. Where a wall-mounted rack takes up shelf depth, this one closes to a flat bar — useful on a balcony, in a narrow utility room, or beside a washing machine where there is no floor left.

Four arms swing out independently, each 24 cm long, so you open one for a couple of shirts and all four for a full load. Between them they carry fifteen hanger holes, and the whole assembly rotates through 360 degrees to point where the air is moving.

Before you fit it

This wants a solid wall. Wet laundry is far heavier than dry — a full load of towels can be several kilos — so use fixings rated for the load and check what is behind the plaster before you drill.

Care

Aluminium will not rust, but outdoors it collects grime. Wipe the bar before hanging anything white on it after a spell of not being used.
